Description
Chilli Name : BLEEDING JIGSAW
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : USA (modern breeder cross)
Chilli Heat : Superhot
The Bleeding Jigsaw is a modern American superhot cross, developed from the Jigsaw line and known for its unusual “bleeding calyx” trait. On some pods, the red pigment from the fruit bleeds into the calyx and stem, creating a striking visual effect that sets it apart from other superhots. This unique colouring, combined with extreme heat, has made it popular with collectors and growers of rare chillies.
Pods are heavily wrinkled and gnarled, often with pointed or twisted ends, ripening from green to a deep red. Heat levels are in the superhot range, comparable to the Carolina Reaper and other elite extremes, with fruity chinense flavour hidden beneath the intensity.
Plants are vigorous for a chinense, usually 90–120 cm tall, producing good yields of pods through the season under long, hot growing conditions.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants take 100–120 days from sowing to harvest. In the UK, greenhouse or polytunnel cultivation is recommended to achieve full ripening.
