The Tabasco Short Yellow is a variant within the Tabasco pepper group, selected for its shorter pod length and distinctive yellow mature colour. It belongs to the Capsicum frutescens species and shares the characteristic growth and flavour profile of traditional Tabasco types.
Pods are short, upright, and slender, typically smaller than standard Tabasco peppers. They mature from green to a bright yellow rather than the more common red, and have thin, juicy walls suited to sauce production and fresh use.
Flavour is sharp, tangy, and slightly fruity with a clean, penetrating heat. Heat levels are generally in the 30,000–50,000 SHU range, placing it in the Hot category. It is suitable for sauces, vinegars, and drying.
Plants are vigorous and upright, producing numerous small fruits over a long growing season. They perform well in warm conditions and are suited to both container growing and open-ground cultivation.
This variety represents a colour and form selection within the Tabasco group, maintaining the classic Capsicum frutescens characteristics while offering variation in pod size and colour.
