Description

Chilli Name: TABASCO HAWAIIAN
Chilli Species: Frutescens
Chilli Origin: USA (Hawaii)
Chilli Heat: Hot

The Tabasco Hawaiian is a regional selection of the traditional Tabasco pepper, associated with cultivation in Hawaii. It belongs to the Capsicum frutescens group and shares the characteristic upright fruiting habit and flavour profile of classic Tabasco types.

Pods are small, slender, and upright, typically 3–5 cm in length. They mature through green to yellow, orange, and finally red. The fruits are thin-walled and juicy, making them well suited to sauces and fresh use.

Flavour is sharp and tangy with a clean, penetrating heat. Heat levels are generally in the 30,000–50,000 SHU range, placing it in the Hot category. It is suitable for sauces, vinegars, and fresh applications where a bright heat is required.

Plants are vigorous and upright, producing a high number of pods over a long growing season. They perform well in warm, humid conditions, reflecting their adaptation to tropical and subtropical climates.

This variety represents a regional adaptation of Tabasco-type peppers, maintaining the classic characteristics while being suited to Hawaiian growing conditions. It reflects the wider spread of Capsicum frutescens through tropical regions.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
