Description
Chilli Name : CHEIRO RECIFE
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Brazil
Chilli Heat : Medium
Cheiro Recife is part of the traditional Brazilian “Cheiro” chillies, a family of chinense varieties prized for their fragrance and flavour rather than extreme heat. Originating from Recife in northeastern Brazil, this variety is a cultural staple, used in local cooking to bring aroma and gentle warmth.
Pods are small, rounded to lantern-shaped, ripening from green to bright yellow or orange. Heat is medium, far lower than habaneros, allowing the fruity, floral chinense flavour to shine. This makes Cheiro Recife ideal for sauces, salsas, and traditional Brazilian dishes where chilli is used to enhance flavour rather than overwhelm.
Plants are compact and very productive, usually 50–70 cm tall, producing heavy flushes of pods across the season.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants usually take 90–110 days from sowing to first harvest, and thrive in pots as well as open ground.
