California Wonder is one of the most famous bell pepper (capsicum annuum) varieties, first developed in the USA in the 1920s. It became a standard commercial sweet pepper due to its consistent yields, thick walls, and classic blocky shape. Over the years, it has been widely adopted around the world and remains one of the most reliable peppers for both home growers and market farmers.
Pods are large and block-shaped, typically 8–10 cm across, with thick crunchy walls. They ripen from green to bright red, with a sweet and juicy flavour and no heat.
Plants grow 60–90 cm tall, with upright branching and strong yields of large peppers through the season. It is a dependable variety, suitable for both greenhouse and outdoor growing.
Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting in 7–14 days. Plants take around 75–90 days from sowing to maturity, producing throughout summer.
