The Birdseye Demon is a select strain of the traditional Birdseye chilli, carrying the same compact, upright growth and fiery pods that helped spread chillies across Africa centuries ago when Portuguese traders first introduced them from Latin America. Known for its heat and resilience, the Demon strain stands out for particularly intense burn and consistent cropping.
Pods are small and narrow, typically 2–3 cm long, upright on the plant, ripening from green to a vivid red. Heat is sharp and immediate, with a clean chilli bite that makes them ideal for hot sauces, pickles, and spice mixes.
Plants are compact and bushy, usually 40–60 cm tall, producing dense clusters of upright pods. They are hardy growers, well-suited to pots, greenhouses, or outdoor growing in warm summers.
Seeds germinate best at 25–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants take 80–100 days from sowing to harvest, yielding heavily throughout the season.
