Description

Chilli Name: TETENYI
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: Hungary
Chilli Heat: Mild

The Tetenyi is a traditional Hungarian sweet pepper variety, widely grown for its reliable yield and suitability for fresh use and cooking. It is part of the Hungarian paprika and wax-type pepper group, valued for its mild flavour and versatility.

Pods are elongated and slightly tapered, typically medium-sized with smooth skin. They ripen from pale yellow or waxy green to red if left to mature fully. The walls are relatively thick, making them suitable for stuffing, frying, and general culinary use.

Flavour is mild, sweet, and slightly tangy with no noticeable heat (0–500 SHU), placing it in the Mild category. It is commonly used fresh, in salads, or cooked in traditional Hungarian dishes.

Plants are compact to medium-sized and productive, producing a steady yield of uniform fruits over the growing season. They perform well in both open-ground cultivation and protected growing environments.

This variety is part of Hungary’s long-established pepper-growing tradition, where mild peppers are central to national cuisine. It is valued for its adaptability and consistent performance.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
