Chilli Name : AJÍ MANGO
Chilli Species : Baccatum
Chilli Origin : Peru
Chilli Heat : Medium
The Ají Mango is a modern baccatum variety bred from traditional South American stock, named for its distinctive tropical flavour that carries a hint of mango-like sweetness. While not a heritage landrace, it reflects the long tradition of South American ajís that combine fruitiness with approachable heat.
Pods are medium-sized, elongated and slightly curved, usually 6–9 cm long. They ripen from green to a golden orange-yellow, with a fruity, tangy flavour and medium heat. The tropical notes make them especially popular for sauces, salsas, and marinades.
Plants are vigorous and upright, often reaching 100–120 cm, producing heavy yields across a long season. They crop reliably and are well-suited to both greenhouse and polytunnel cultivation.
Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants usually take 90–110 days from sowing to harvest, with fruits ripening from mid-summer through to autumn.
