Description
Chilli Name : AJÍ BRAZILIAN STARFISH YELLOW
Chilli Species : Baccatum
Chilli Origin : Brazil
Chilli Heat : Medium
The Ají Brazilian Starfish Yellow is a vibrant variation of the distinctive starfish-shaped chilli native to Brazil. Like its red counterpart, it belongs to the Capsicum baccatum family, but ripens to a bright yellow that makes the unusual pod shape stand out even more.
Pods are flat, disc-like, and wrinkled with starfish-style edges, usually 4–6 cm across. They ripen from green to golden yellow, with a fruity, sweet flavour and a medium level of heat. Their appearance makes them favourites for collectors and growers looking for something both ornamental and edible.
Plants grow tall and vigorous, often 120–150 cm in height, producing heavy yields over a long season. They’re a striking presence in the garden, with their colourful pods dangling like little lanterns.
Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants typically take 100–120 days from sowing to first harvest. In the UK, greenhouse or polytunnel cultivation is recommended to ensure reliable ripening, though plants may perform outdoors in a particularly warm summer.
