Tiger Teeth Chilli — Striking Looks and Solid Heat from the Capsicum annuum Family

Tiger Teeth is a visually dramatic and moderately hot chilli from the Capsicum annuum species, known for its striped, claw-like pods that live up to the name. This is a modern ornamental–culinary hybrid, developed by breeders for both appearance and performance — making it a standout in gardens as well as in the kitchen.

The pods are narrow, curved, and often pointed, resembling fangs or claws. What makes them unique is their distinct striping or mottled colouring — typically ripening from green to a blend of orange, red, and golden yellow, sometimes with purple streaks depending on sunlight exposure. These chillies deliver a medium to hot heat, estimated around 20,000–40,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), with a clean, slightly sweet bite and minimal bitterness.

The plant itself is compact, highly ornamental, and productive, often grown for its visual appeal as much as its fruit. It thrives in containers, raised beds, or borders, and is ideal for growers looking to combine heat, colour, and character in one variety.

While not a landrace or heirloom, Tiger Teeth is an excellent example of modern chilli breeding, combining form and function — perfect for hot sauces, drying, or simply showing off in the garden.
