Description
Chilli Name : SCOTCH BONNET CHOCOLATE MOA
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Jamaica
Chilli Heat : Very Hot
Scotch Bonnet Chocolate MOA is the official chocolate-coloured selection from the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) Jamaica Scotch Bonnet breeding line. This true Caribbean Chinense retains the iconic fruity-sweet Scotch Bonnet flavour but in a darker, richer form — the result of a stable natural variation from the traditional yellow type.
Pods are flattened and bonnet-shaped, 4–5 cm across, ripening from green to rich chocolate brown. The flavour is fruity, slightly smoky, and earthy, with the unmistakable tropical sweetness of authentic Jamaican Scotch Bonnets. Heat levels typically range between 200,000–400,000 SHU, giving it strong but balanced intensity — ideal for Jerk marinades, sauces, and Caribbean dishes.
Plants are compact and heavy-fruiting (60–80 cm tall), producing uniform pods with good wall thickness. It performs best in warm, humid conditions but adapts well to greenhouse growing in the UK. This true MOA line is prized for its consistency and deep, complex flavour.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 100–110 days, producing abundant crops through late summer.
