The Scotch Bonnet Chocolate MOA is a specially selected Capsicum chinense variety developed by the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) of Jamaica. Known for its rich flavour, signature bonnet shape, and deep chocolate-brown colouring, this chilli is a darker, bolder take on the island’s most iconic pepper.

This variety stays true to the traditional Scotch Bonnet form, with its squat, lobed “bonnet” shape, but matures to a striking dark brown rather than the usual yellow or red. It delivers a powerful fruity, smoky, and slightly earthy flavour — often described as more complex and aromatic than its yellow or red counterparts. The heat is intense but not overwhelming, typically ranging between 100,000 and 200,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).

The MOA Chocolate Scotch Bonnet was selected to maintain true Jamaican characteristics in terms of flavour, aroma, and performance. It’s a favourite among hot sauce makers and serious cooks looking for authentic Caribbean heat with a unique twist.
