Description
Chilli Name: TROTTOLINO AMOROSO
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: Italy
Chilli Heat: Medium
The Trottolino Amoroso is an Italian ornamental chilli variety, valued for its compact growth and decorative, upright fruit display. The name translates loosely to “spinning top” or “little top,” referencing the shape and presentation of the pods.
Pods are small, conical to top-shaped, and borne upright in clusters above the foliage. They ripen through a range of colours, typically from green to cream, yellow, orange, and finally red, creating a multicoloured ornamental effect. The fruits are thin-walled and suited to both display and light culinary use.
Flavour is mildly pungent with a moderate heat, generally placing it in the Medium category (5,000–30,000 SHU). While edible, it is primarily grown for ornamental value rather than flavour complexity.
Plants are compact, bushy, and highly productive, forming a neat, rounded habit. They are well suited to pots, borders, and patio growing, with a long fruiting period and strong visual appeal.
This variety is part of the Italian ornamental chilli tradition, where visual characteristics such as fruit orientation and colour progression are key selection traits. It is grown widely as a decorative edible plant.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
