Chilli Name: TENNESSEE TEARDROPS
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: USA
Chilli Heat: Mild
The Tennessee Teardrops is a small-fruited chilli variety from the United States, named for its distinctive teardrop-shaped pods. It is a traditional type valued for its compact fruits and suitability for pickling and preserving.
Pods are small, round to teardrop-shaped, typically around 1–2 cm in size. They ripen from green to bright red and have relatively thick walls for their size, making them well suited to pickling and whole use.
Flavour is mild with a slight sweetness and gentle heat, typically in the 1,000–5,000 SHU range, placing it in the Mild category. It is commonly used for pickling, garnishes, and fresh applications.
Plants are compact and productive, producing a large number of small fruits over the growing season. They are well suited to container growing as well as open-ground cultivation.
This variety reflects traditional American garden chilli types, selected for unique fruit shape and practical culinary uses rather than extreme heat or modern hybrid traits.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
