Description
Chilli Name: TAURUS
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: Europe (Commercial Hybrid Line)
Chilli Heat: Sweet
The Taurus is a commercial hybrid sweet pepper variety developed for high yield, uniform fruiting, and strong greenhouse performance. It is widely grown in European horticulture, particularly for commercial production of large block peppers.
Pods are large, blocky, and thick-walled, typically forming a classic bell pepper shape. They mature from green to a deep red and are known for their firm texture and substantial weight, making them suitable for fresh markets and cooking.
Flavour is sweet and mild with no heat (0 SHU), placing it firmly in the Sweet category. The flesh is crisp and juicy when fresh, holding well in cooking applications such as roasting, stuffing, and slicing.
Plants are vigorous and productive, producing a high yield of uniform fruits under controlled conditions. They perform particularly well in greenhouses and polytunnels, where consistent temperature and feeding support optimal fruit development.
Taurus is part of modern commercial breeding programmes focused on yield, fruit uniformity, and disease resistance. It is widely used in professional cultivation rather than small-scale ornamental growing.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
