Description

Chilli Name: 904750149
Chilli Species: Praetermissum
Chilli Origin: Brazil
Chilli Heat: Hot

Accession 904750149 is a wild chilli from the species Capsicum praetermissum, originally collected in Brazil and held within the Brazilian Germplasm Bank (BGH). While it may lack a catchy common name, this accession is a remarkable representative of Brazil’s wild chilli biodiversity.

Like most C. praetermissum types, the plant forms a small, branching shrub with a naturally compact and hardy growth habit. Its foliage often carries purple tinges, and the flowers are beautiful and distinctive — purple-marked corollas with soft throats, a clear botanical indicator of the species.

The fruit is small, pea-sized, and upright, ripening from green to a vibrant red, sometimes with deep purples along the way. Don’t be misled by their size — these pods pack a sharp 30,000–60,000 SHU heat, offering intense flavour in tiny doses. While not ideal for fresh culinary use due to size, they work well in hot sauces, infusions, or as striking edible garnishes.

904750149 is particularly prized for its perennial potential, ornamental beauty, and disease resistance — all traits that make it useful in breeding programmes as well as home gardens. For growers interested in exploring wild Capsicum species, this variety offers both challenge and reward — a living piece of Brazil’s chilli heritage.
