Yellow Leaves on Chilli Plants
Yellowing leaves on a chilli plant can indicate a range of issues. Use this checklist to identify and address the problem:
1. Lack of Sunlight
If your plant isn’t getting enough light, it can’t photosynthesize effectively, leading to yellowing leaves.
Learn more on our Sunlight Guide.
2. VPD (Vapour Pressure Deficit)
Stress from an improper VPD rating can also cause yellow leaves. Ensure your plant is in an environment with the correct balance of temperature and humidity.
Learn more on our VPD Guide.
3. Watering Issues
Type of Water: Certain water types (like overly hard water) can stress plants.
Waterlogged Soil: If the soil is constantly wet from top to bottom, the roots may lack oxygen, causing yellow leaves.

4. Sunburn
If leaves have ivory-white patches rather than uniform yellowing, they may be sunburnt. This often happens when plants are exposed to intense light without proper acclimatisation.
Learn more on our Hardening Guide.
5. Overfeeding
Excess nutrients can overwhelm the plant, causing yellowing.
