The Breath of Life for Chilli Plants
Air is more than just something around us—it’s a vital force for chilli plants. Oxygen acts as nature’s courier, carrying essential minerals and nutrients from the roots to every part of the plant.
Imagine this: a tiny oxygen molecule latches onto nutrients at the roots, travels up through the plant’s stems and branches, and deposits what’s needed into the leaves. The magic doesn’t stop there. Once the job is done, the plant releases the oxygen back into the air—fuelling the cycle of life that lets us breathe.
What Happens Without Air?
When soil becomes waterlogged—(see our Soil page here)—the roots are suffocated. Without oxygen, the "posties" of the plant world can’t do their job. Nutrients and energy are left stranded, unable to reach the leaves or fuel new growth.
This lack of air forces the plant into a kind of stasis, unable to produce fresh foliage or pods. The energy that could have gone into thriving is wasted, leaving the chilli plant struggling to survive.
By keeping soil aerated and balanced, you ensure that your chilli plants have the oxygen they need to grow strong and produce abundant harvests. It’s an awe-inspiring connection between nature and nurture.
Do not Over Water
If there is to much water in the soil the chilli plants will simply not grow, it is better to under water than over water -see our water page here
